Plans underway for new visual arts school

Feb 19, 2013 12:14 am
John Mason writes in the Register Star the idea of a new visual arts school for Columbia County was unveiled at a meeting attended by about 40 people Sun., Feb. 17, at the Old Schoolhouse in Harlemville. The Columbia County Art School is the brainchild of Nicole Furnee and Thomas Chulak, owners of the Chatham Bookstore. The school is presently in the planning stages. The pair has teamed up with the Columbia County Council on the Arts. They are drawing their inspiration from IS183, a non-profit community arts school located in Stockbridge, Mass. Classes and workshops would be offered at the Harlemville location, in addition to other sites throughout the county. A second open meeting on the project will be held April 14 at the Old Schoolhouse. Read the full story in the Register Star.
