C-D board defeats motion to close building
Jun 13, 2014 6:44 am
The Cairo-Durham Board of Education Thurs., June 12, defeated a resolution to close the Durham Elementary School building on a vote of 5 to 3. Board members Robert Criswell, Eizabeth Daly, Carl Kohrs, Susan Kusminsky and Elizabeth Phillips, all voted against the building closure. In May, Cairo-Durham voters approved a budget based on a plan to close the school, though no official decision on the issue had been made at that time. All summer school programs were to be funded by the reallocation of the savings realized from the Durham building closure. Those programs will now be canceled as a result of the board decision, Thursday.
