Ravena Lafarge plant catches fire

The Albany Times Union that the Lafarge Ravena cement plant had a fire that took three hours to extinguish Aug. 16. The enclosed conveyor belt that carries material from a wharf on the Hudson River to the plant caught fire. Town of Coeymans Fire Chief Mark Deyo said it may have been a mechanical issue that caused the fire. Fire fighters from Ravena village, New Baltimore, Selkirk, Bethlehem, and South Schodack put out the fire inside an enclosed shed. Some firefighters reported heat-related issues, Deyo said.
