Chatham official raises short-term rental issue

Jan 31, 2020 12:49 am
Emilia Teasdale reports for the Columbia Paper that one Town of Chatham official is looking to regulate short-term rentals. “I do think they should be somehow regulated,” Councilperson Abi Mesick said at the Jan. 16 town meeting, for the town “to be responsible, we should keep track of these uses.” She said she is looking at regulations on short-term rentals recently passed in Hillsdale and the Town of Jewett in Greene County. But she said that the Chatham area is not “that big of an attraction” so the town does not need to review laws like those adopted by municipalities in New Jersey or Massachusetts. She said that less than one percent of Chatham residences are rentals. Read more about this story in the Columbia Paper.
