Natasha Vaughn is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media plans are underway to hold the Columbia County Fair and the Greene County Youth Fair this year. The Board of Directors of the Columbia County Agricultural Society announced March 21, it hopes to be able to hold the fair this year. Agricultural Society secretary Angelo Nero said the state has not communicated about what restrictions and guidelines may be in effect, however. “We are planning to open, let’s put it that way,” Nero said. “But as far as what the requirements might be, and what the state might require what may hinder the population coming in, we don’t know. We have to wait until we get everything from the state.” Last year was the first time the county was not able to hold a fair since it was founded in 1840, Nero said. The Columbia County Fair typically attracts 65,000 people each year. Greene County Youth Fair organizers announced online March 20, “There WILL be a 2021 Greene County Youth Fair!” Like their compatriots in Columbia County, Youth Fair organizers are unsure of how the event this year will look and what types of precautions will have to be followed. The youth fair will take place from July 22 to July 25. Last year would have marked the fair’s 66th anniversary. The Youth Fair typically attracts a crowd of 20,000 each year. Last year the fair was held virtually, and was dubbed the “Quarantine Classic.” It boasted 49 exhibitors and more than 400 exhibits.
