Catskill declines to sell land to energy storage company

Aug 14, 2019 12:55 am
Sarah Trafton report for Columbia-Greene Media that the Town of Catskill turned down a proposal from a London-based energy company interested in purchasing town property for an energy storage project. Coronation Power wanted to purchase a 3.69-acre Jefferson Heights site that was formerly a Babe Ruth league baseball field, and an older cemetery to put five giant batteries for energy storage. “Because it’s town land and there is a fair amount of rigor involved, we are not interested in pursuing it,” Town Supervisor Doreen Davis said Aug. 13. Any sale of town land requires a public referendum. Coronation Power did not get back to the newspaper, but their website says they look for sites near electrical substations and existing solar or wind farms. With more renewable energy projects being constructed in the area lately, there will be more land needed for energy storage locally in the future. Read more about this story at HudsonValley360.com.
