Coeymans wind project to create 800 jobs

Kate Lisa is reporting for Capital Region Independent Media state officials announced July 18, plans to build an 816-megawatt wind project at the Port of Coeymans. The project is expected to create more than 800 local jobs. New York will lead the nation in its largest offshore wind agreement and renewable energy procurement to power more than 1 million homes, according to a statement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office. The Empire Wind project by Equinor is slated for the Port of Coeymans off Route 144. “Offshore wind will be transformational for the upstate economy,” said Andrew Kennedy, president and CEO of the Center for Economic Growth. “...The Capital Region looks forward to working with this industry to meet their needs to house fabrication operations, space to stage and transport foundations, substations and wind turbine generators.” The Coeymans project is expected to bring port upgrades. The construction of the Empire Wind project is scheduled to begin in 2022 and expected to enter commercial operation in December 2024, according to the governor’s office.
