Robert Gavin reports in Capitol Confidential Gov. Andrew Cuomo has picked Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Garry, originally from Berne in southern Albany County, as the next presiding justice of the region’s appellate court. Gavin says Garry, 55, will be the first openly gay judge leading the Third Department of the Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court. Garry now lives in Chenango County. “I am greatly honored by the governor’s appointment,” Garry said in a statement. “The precedent of this court has been my guide throughout my entire legal career. I will always work hard and do my very best to bring its great traditions forward. I look forward to working with our chief judge and my colleagues to ensure that the principles of our state judiciary are advanced in service to the people of our state.”
