Cairo Chamber of Commerce to close

Daniel Zuckerman reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the Cairo Chamber of Commerce will most likely be shutting down at the end of the year after a last request for help from the town board Sept. 19. Chamber officials asked the town board for financial help at the town meeting this week. “That’s not a proper function for us,” Town Supervisor Dan Benoit said. “We just can’t hand them money.” The Chamber will close after their annual Harvest Festival on Oct. 6 and the Christmas in Cairo parade Nov. 25, unless someone, or some organization, helps out. “It’s time for other organizations to step up to the plate — we’re all tired,” Executive Director M.A. Tarpinian said. “I wish them all well.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360.com.
