C-D officials: Boost in state aid will not last

Apr 17, 2013 2:29 pm
Kyle Adams reports in The Daily Mail the Cairo-Durham Central School District’s proposed $27.7 million budget received a welcome boost in state aid last month, but school officials warn that current spending trends cannot be sustained for long. An increase of more than $400,000 will nearly close the previously projected budget deficit, Business Manager Lissa Jilek said. The district will receive approximately $12.8 million in state and federal aid, an increase of more than $500,000 from last year and the largest increase in state and federal aid the district has received in about four years. Even with the state aid increase, the Board of Education must appropriate $1.7 million from the district fund balance to close the funding gap. Read the full story in The Daily Mail. Information on the Cairo-Durham 2013-14 budget can be found at the district's Web site.
