NY sees biggest population drop in the country

WWNY-TV is reporting New York state Senator Joseph A. Griffo, Deputy Minority Leader, says preliminary information from the U.S. Census Bureau shows a large number of residents are leaving the state. According to the bureau, New York has seen the largest population decline in the entire nation. Data indicates that approximately 126,000 residents left the state between July of 2019 and July of 2020. Griffo said dramatic changes in policy are needed in order to keep people here. He said residents are overtaxed, over-regulated and energy costs are too high. He said, “Until we have a significant overhaul of taxes and regulations, and focus on lowering our energy costs, we will continue to face a significant challenge here.” Another warning from Griffo, the population drop could result in the state losing up to two congressional seats.
