Amedore running for state senate again
Aug 12, 2019 12:47 am
David Lombardo reports for the Albany Times Union that it is now all but official that George Amedore will run for a fourth term as New York State Senator representing the 46th District. In a profile of Democrat Jeff Collins who plans to challenge him, Amedore said in a statement that he looks forward to a "spirited debate" in the election. "We have another legislative session coming up where we will continue to address many important issues that impact the lives of my constituents, and all New Yorkers," he wrote. Last month Saugerties Democrat Michelle Hinchey, daughter of the late Congressman Maurice Hinchey, formed an exploratory committee to also consider running for the seat, which includes all of Greene and Montgomery counties and parts of Albany, Schenectady, and Ulster counties. Amedore has held the seat since 2014. The last time Democrats won the seat was in an election year when a Democrat was elected president, in 2012. Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk beat Amedore then, but he won the rematch two year later, when fewer voters showed up at the polls. Read more about this story in the Albany Times Union.
