Coxsackie solar developer moving Flint Mine Solar project ahead

Sep 09, 2019 1:00 pm
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the developer of Flint Mine Solar in Coxsackie has announced it will file a revised scoping statement and agreements with stakeholders September 9. The filing, by Hudson Energy Development, will move the project closer to fruition, and is being done in accordance with Article 10 of the state Public Service Law. The proposed 100-megawatt solar farm has gained the favor of several local farmers. The Friends of Flint Mine Solar, a group of about 25 landowners, is suing the town of Coxsackie alleging that its local solar law is illegal. At issue is Local Law No. 2, which regulates the placement, design, construction and operation of solar-energy systems and ensures there will be no significant impacts on the environment or the town’s aesthetic qualities and character. Giuseppina Agovino, president of the friends group said she believes the town considered just half the story when adopting the law. “They did not look at the positive impact on the land,” she said, adding that another solar farm underway by the Greene County Industrial Development Agency was found to have positive impacts when a proper review was performed.
