Legislation introduced to push school elections back one week

MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting state Sen. Peter Harckham has introduced legislation that would extend the date for the upcoming school board elections and budget vote until June 16. The annual vote is currently scheduled to held by absentee ballot because of the coronavirus. However, many of the ballots are not getting distributed because the company hired by many districts to print and mail them ran short on paper and envelopes, so the mailings may not reach voters in time to be returned by June 9. Harckham said if the proposal does not make it through the legislature, the governor should issue an executive order pushing the school board and budget voting by back one week.
