Durham bridge replacement to begin after holiday
Jul 04, 2019 1:15 pm
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media beginning after the Independence Day holiday, the steel-deck bridge over Bowery Creek on Sunside Road in Durham will be replaced. The project is expected to take approximately 10 weeks and will cost $139,400. “We’re waiting until after the Fourth because of Blackthorne,” Deputy Highway Superintendent Scott Templeton said. “We didn’t want to impact them during the holiday.” Sunside Road connects Blackthorne Resort to Route 145. The county has hired Advanced Enterprise Concrete and Excavation of Saugerties to do the work. By replacing the metal decking with asphalt, the bridge will no longer have any weight restrictions, Templeton said. During construction, traffic will be detoured either down Route 31 to 20, or via Jennings Road to Sunside Road. Other upcoming major projects in the county include the paving this fall of County Route 12 in Windham for the bicycle lane, and a culvert replacement on County Route 2 in Lexington in late August or September.
