Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media motorists using Route 23A between Catskill and Palenville during the month of May can expect delays while a paving project takes place, Bryan Viggiani, public information officer for Region 1, of the state Department of Transportation, said May 3. Nearly six miles of road is slated to be repaved between Whites Road in Catskill and Under Hill Road in Palenville, Viggiani said. Drivers will be routed via alternating single lanes of traffic, controlled by flaggers, throughout the work zone. The paving is now underway and is expected to continue through the end of the month. Crews are scheduled to work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, weather permitting, Viggiani said. Motorists are asked to slow down in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Viggiani is reminding drivers to obey flaggers’ directions. Move over a lane, if safely possible, or slow down whenever encountering roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.
