Hudson school board to fill vacancy

Jeanette Wolfberg is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Hudson Board of Education is now down to six members following the resignation of Sumayyah Shabazz. Shabazz reliquished her seat for personal reasons, a full year before the end of her term. The board decided at its August 13 meeting, it will next month appoint an interim member to fill the vacancy through June 30, 2019. Residents of the Hudson City School District interested in serving as an interim member are asked to send a letter of interest to Leslie Coons, Clerk of the Board, 215 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson, NY 12534, or by email to districtclerk [at] hudsoncsd [dot] org. Letters of interest will be accepted until 4 p.m., September 14. The board expects to fill the seat at its September 24 meeting. Generally, a candidate for school board must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, a qualified voter in the school district and able to read and write. They must be a resident of the district continuously for one year prior to appointment or election. When a board member takes office, they cannot be employed by the board on which they serve or live in the same household with a family member who is also a member of the same school board.
