MidHudsonNews is reporting Scott Smith has announced he is a candidate for the 18th Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring. This will be the Goshen teacher’s third Congressional run as an unaffiliated independent candidate. “I see a need to have independent representation. Right now, the way I see things, we end up with candidates who represent parties, not necessarily the people of the district,” Smith said. He declared the Congress “in desperate need of cleaning.” So far, the only Republican candidate challenging Maloney is Chele Farley of Tuxedo Park, Orange County.
