Emilia Teasdale is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Ichabod Crane school district is thinking about implementing a single bus run proposal. The proposal would mean the district’s three school buildings would be on the same bus schedule and kindergarten through 12th-grade students would ride the same buses. Administrators argue the single busing proposal would save time and funds for the district. Though the district would use more buses for one run, buses would be on the road less, saving an estimated $70,000 to $80,000 in fuel and $7,000 to $10,000 in maintenance. The big savings would be in personnel time -- drivers would spend 22 fewer hours on the road every day, thereby saving the district between $138,000 to $155,000 every year. The Board of Education would have to approve the plan this spring for it to go into effect next year. “We’re always looking for efficiency,” Superintendent Michael Vanyo said, pointing out the district has been considering the change since November. “This change is a benefit for our district,” he said.
