Bard College has announced Wed., Mar. 27, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, retired space shuttle Commander Mark Kelly, will deliver the commencement address at the college's 153rd graduation ceremony, May 25. Giffords will also receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters for her public service. Honorary degrees will also be awarded to microbiologist Jo Handelsman, orchestrator Jonathan Tunick, New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott and chef Alice Waters. Giffords and her husband founded Americans for Responsible Solutions as a way to encourage elected officials to stand up for both the 2nd Amendment and safer communities by communicating directly with their constituents.
