Common Council committee hears from Stewart's on zoning amendment

Feb 26, 2018 6:45 am

Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media plans for the proposed expansion of the Stewart's Shops 45-year-old store located at Fairview Avenue and Green Street in Hudson moved forward last week. The store sits in an R-2 zone, which is restricted to one-and-two-family residences, so the Hudson Common Council must okay an amendment to the city's zoning laws for Stewart’s to apply for site plan approval and the project can begin. Chuck Marshall, land development permitting coordinator for Stewart’s, appeared before the Common Council Economic Development Committee February 22, and made an argument in favor of the zoning amendment. A public hearing will be scheduled to give residents the opportunity to comment on the changes later in the process. Stewart’s proposal calls for the expansion of the convenience market to more than 3,300-square-feet and add two fueling stations. The building’s orientation will be turned 90 degrees, new parking spaces will be added and entrances will be moved away from the intersection. Stewart’s has also proposed improvements to the intersection, including the addition of lights and crosswalks and improved sidewalks. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
