James Skoufis last week announced the Senate Investigation and Government Operations Committee has been looking into the new refund policy recently put into place by Ticketmaster, the ticket sales and distribution company based in Beverly Hills, California. Following reports that the ticketing giant would no longer provide refunds for postponed or rescheduled events, the Orange County Democrat wrote to state Attorney General Letitia James requesting that a formal inquiry be opened. “Deceptively changing the language of refund policies and excluding postponed or rescheduled events are forms of corporate robbery; withholding billions of dollars that many now need to survive this pandemic is the antithesis of corporate social responsibility," Skouflis said. A spokesperson for the AG's Office said the matter is being looked into, but no formal investigation has been launched at this time. Ticketmaster, in its own statement, said event organizers are responsible for offering refunds for postponed events but many are waiting to do so until events are rescheduled. The process is made more complicated by restrictions put in place because of COVID-19. According to Ticketmaster, more than 11,000 events have already been refunded by promoters to date.
