Columbia County sheriff has a drone

Feb 25, 2017 12:02 am
Jeanette Wolfberg in The Columbia Paper reports that the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office now has a radio-controlled drone. But, “don’t call it a drone; drones carry bombs,” Sheriff David Bartlett told the county Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee meeting Feb. 15. The dictionary defines a drone as, "an unmanned aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers," so Columbia County now has a drone, despite the sheriff's protests. He said the drone would be used to, “find missing people in rivers and woods,” and, “supplementing divers and canine units.” The sheriff said that, “strictly video,” no audio, would be recorded by the drone, and that he would not use the drone to find drugs or plants cultivated to yield drugs, nor to fly over gatherings, including protest demonstrations.
