Common Council to pick 3rd Ward representative
Sam Raudins reports for Columbia-Greene Media sometime in the next month the Common Council will choose someone to fill the second seat in the 3rd Ward, Common Council President Tom DePietro said Nov. 16. Calvin Lewis won the seat in this fall's election after he announced he was dropping his candidacy because of his new role as the assistant director with the Hudson Youth Department. Write-in candidates Amber Harris and Shershah Mizan finished behind Lewis, receiving 84 and 22 votes, respectively. That may or may not influence the council's choice, DePietro said. “The fact is many people could have voted for Calvin (Lewis) knowing he wasn’t accepting it, but knowing that they’d rather have the council decide,” DePietro said. He said the council is taking applications to be the 3rd Ward representative. “At some point we will interview all the applicants and as a council choose the next member from the 3rd Ward,” he said.
