Faded Discs: The Case for the Flying Saucers (Audio)

Sep 07, 2021
Created by Santino Gonzales.

The premiere episode of Faded Discs, created by Santino Gonzales. Airing after the midnight news, Faded Discs is a collection of radio broadcasts about the ufo phenomenon. Spanning more than 40 years and 200 hours of recordings, this show is a tribute to the work of independent researcher Wendy Connors, who originally shared these recordings on CD-ROMs from her homemade website.

Transcript Intro: “Hey, you’re listening to 90.7FM WGXC. I’m Tino Gonzales, an artist from Los Lunas, New Mexico.

Today you’re going to be hearing radio recordings that orbit the topic of Flying Saucers in a series we are calling, “Faded Discs.” We’ve given it this title because of the tireless efforts of one amazing woman named Wendy Connors.

Connors lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, not far from me, and before I was born, she was already on a lifelong journey to collect as many radio recordings as she possibly could — on the subject of UFO’s.

For a long time, she would distribute CD’s of these recordings from her website throughout the 90’s to curious researchers around the world. Unfortunately, Wendy has since passed and I never had the pleasure to meet her. And while not a lot is publicly known about Connors, her legacy lives on and her archive has proven to be a wellspring of information on the topic. However, in my UFO research, her name never came up and I couldn’t understand why.

So, I wanted to share these recordings, as a way to honor Wendy and her tenacious research, in a topic that is truly close to home for me. Without her, it’s likely a lot of these recordings would remain dusty and forgotten.

For our first broadcast, we’ll be playing her recording of Edward R Murrow’s, “The Case for the Flying Saucers” which first aired in 1949. This is believed to be the first widespread assessment of the UFO phenomenon ever broadcast. In this episode, we hear the legendary reporter weaving in archival clips with Air Force Pilots, eyewitness, and even Kenneth Arnold - the person who, through a misquote, is responsible for coining the term Flying Saucer. More about that in the recording. So, let’s move on to our first re-broadcast of Wendy Connors’ UFO radio archive - Faded Discs.”
