Noah Zweifel reports for the Altamont Enterprise that the Regional Food Bank, Catholic Charities, and the Capital District Area Labor Federation will give out free food to whoever needs it at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 18 on the Berne-Knox-Westerlo school campus. “We’re trying to make sure we don’t lose people where there are food deserts and there’s no access to this kind of stuff,” said Mark Emanatian, director of the Capital District Area Labor Federation. There are no requirements or qualifications or questions to receive the food except for zip codes, to track distribution, and the number of people being fed. “Some of these people have never needed help in their life,” Emanatian said, “but they’ve lost jobs, income, hours, whatever, and we want to make them feel like we’re all in this together. That’s why we don’t ask for any kind of identification. They don’t have to prove anything. They just have to come." The groups plan to fill 450 boxes with potatoes, bread, milk, chicken, and other items for a family of four to have a couple of meals. The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Teachers’ Association is helping with the food giveaway. Read more about this story in the Altamont Enterprise.
