Dec 28, 2020 6:15 am

Melanie Lekocevic is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media visitation has been temporarily suspended at Coxsackie Correctional Facility due to the high number of COVID-19 cases. Visitation was also suspended at the Gouverneur and Mohawk facilities, as well. The suspension went into effect December 23, and will remain in place until further notice, according to a statement from the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. “The department takes seriously its duty to ensure the safety and well-being of those that work and live in our correctional facilities,” according to DOCCS. “During this difficult time, the department is appreciative of everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue to face this virus together.” Coxsackie Correctional Facility reported 16 total positive cases as of December 22, and it has 78 tests pending, according to the DOCCS website. There have been no deaths at the facility due to COVID-19. Visitation had already been temporarily suspended at 11 other correctional facilities statewide due to the virus: Greene, Attica, Auburn, Bare Hill, Cayuga, Clinton, Groveland, Wende and Woodbourne. The Elmira and Southport correctional facilities are located in designated orange zones, so visitation had already been suspended. Read more at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
