State Police issue first SAFE citation in Columbia Co.

Karrie Allen writes in the Register Star the New York State Police have reported the first New York SAFE Act violation in Columbia County. A Troop K spokesman said during a traffic stop on Route 22 in New Lebanon, a 31-year-old Hopewell Junction man was alleged to have been found in possession of a loaded magazine containing nine rounds of ammunition. A maximum of seven rounds in a magazine is permitted under the SAFE legislation. The driver was in legal possession of the Smith and Wesson semi-automatic .40 caliber handgun. He was charged with two misdemeanors and issued appearance tickets, returnable later this month in New Lebanon Town Court. Read the full story in the Register Star.
