Comments on Hudson River anchorages now accepted through December 6
Sep 03, 2016 12:03 am
The Daily Freeman reports that the U.S. Coast Guard is extending the public comment period about a plan to establish large-vessel anchoring sites on the Hudson River until Dec. 6. Comments were set to be cut-off on Sept. 7, but the Coast Guard has already received nearly 2,400 comments about the plan to establish ten locations for large commercial vessels to anchor between Kingston and Yonkers. “The fact that the Coast Guard has given the public more time to weigh in on the controversial proposal, highlights the enormous level of concern and outrage expressed by the public,” says Riverkeeper President Paul Gallay. “It also shows that the Coast Guard is taking this matter seriously. We’re confident that a full and thoughtful evaluation will lead to the eventual denial of the shipping industry’s proposal.” Anyone can make a comment on the issue at the link on the WGXC Newsroom: https://www.regulations.gov/comment?D=USCG-2016-0132-0001.
