CB, amateur radio operators help 'Pumpkin Patrol'

The Daily Freeman reports that local citizen band radio clubs and amateur radio operators will conduct the 40th annual “Pumpkin Patrol” this weekend, aimed at preventing Halloween pranks and protecting motorists along the Thruway. On Oct. 30 and 31, citizen volunteers will assist Troop T monitoring thruway overpasses and reporting any unusual activity to state police or local law enforcement. Katherine St. Jacques in Fort Johnson started the "Pumpkin Patrol" speaking over a CB radio in 1976, reporting an object thrown from an overpass striking a driver's windshield.
