Kelsey sentencing in sex abuse case postponed
W.T. Eckert is reporting in the Register-Star sentencing for former Dutchess County legislator Michael N. Kelsey has been adjourned to September 6. Kelsey, 38, of Salt Point, was found guilty May 12 of sexually abusing two teenaged boys in the summer of 2014. The abuse occurred when Kelsey was leading a Boy Scout group on a weeklong excursion in the Adirondacks. Kelsey was scheduled to be sentenced last week by Montgomery County Judge Felix J. Catena, but Kelsey's new attorney, Shane Hug of Albany, requested an adjournment in order to prepare and present a motion asking the verdict be set aside. St. Lawrence County District Attorney Mary E. Rain has said she will be seeking the maximum sentence of 11 years in prison for Kelsey. Kelsey continues to be held in St. Lawrence County jail without bail until sentencing. Read the full story in the Register-Star.
