Produced by Wave Farm Radio.

A score for up to four players:

  • a non-reed woodwind
  • a radio using FM or shortwave frequencies
  • a ‘keyboard’ instrument
  • a ‘chordal’ string instrument

A guided mindful improvisation. Three recordings of the work, performed by the ensemble Comma and adjunct players. The score is based on a map of the French Broad River as it passes through the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina.

This work was broadcast on September 3, 2012 on WGXC in conjunction with a staggering array of events celebrating the John Cage Centennial in 2012. Wave Farm (aka free103point9) and the John Cage Trust presented a special program celebrating Cage's compositions with, for, and about radio. Selected from an open call, featured works (originating from twelve countries) comprised a broadcast on WGXC and streamed online throughout a month-long program September 2012.

Tune in for selections from Wave Farm's Transmission Art Archive, a specialized online resource of artists' experiments with the electromagnetic spectrum in form or concept. The resource contains primary materials from early microradio broadcast collaborations among Brooklyn-based artists in the mid-nineties, transmission works created by the hundreds of artists who have participated in Wave Farm projects, broadcasts, and residencies, as well as historical and contemporary projects that comprise the canon of the genre.
