Clegg beats Kanavagh for Ulster County DA
Dec 12, 2019 12:58 am
Patricia R. Doxsey reports in the Daily Freeman that Democrat David Clegg defeated Republican Michael J. Kanavagh by 77 votes for Ulster County District Attorney. The final tally on Dec. 11 was 26,331-to-26,254, according to Republican Commissioner of Elections Thomas Turco. After the Nov. 5 election, Kavanagh led by three votes, with 1,300 absentee and affidavit ballots to be counted. The result will stand unless Kavanagh appeals any of the rulings on challenged ballots made by state Supreme Court Justice Richard McNally. During the count, 180 ballots were challenged by Republicans and 90 were challenged by Democrats. Read more about this story in the Daily Freeman.
