Catskills location is part of proposed casino deal

Jun 20, 2013 12:05 am
James Odato is reporting in the Times Union Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and legislative leaders have agreed to allow four casinos in upstate New York and three in the New York City region seven years later. Under the agreement, two casinos will be allowed in the Catskills and one each in the Capital Region and Southern Tier. The agreement will require statewide voter approval. Cuomo originally asked for three casinos during the first phase of development, but Senate Republicans pushed for more immediate growth, particularly in the economically distressed Catskills. The new casinos would be required to share 39 percent of slot machine revenues with the state. Slot machines at Native American casinos are required to share only 25 percent.
