Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Greenport resident Helen Hogan celebrates her 103rd birthday this week. She observed the occasion with her son James and daughter-in-law Arlene, Mon., Jul. 3. “The doctors keep telling her to keep doing what she is doing,” James said. “She is in great shape. They say don’t do anything different.” What is Hogan’s secret to a long, healthy life? “I never drank or smoked,” she said. “I just keep moving and try to look forward to the next day.” Hogan advises the younger generations to “give your parents more respect."
