Village of Catskill adopts $6.4 million budget

May 15, 2013 6:51 am
Kyle Adams reports in The Daily Mail the village of Catskill adopted its 2013-14 spending plan at public appropriations meeting at the Washington Irving Senior Center, Tues., May 14. The budget approved totals $6.4 million. It contains few major changes from the current year. The tax levy increase is below the state mandated two percent cap, producing a tax rate increase of five cents per thousand. Village President Vincent Seeley credits the village’s ability to keep taxes down to responsible spending, aggressive debt reduction and some lucky development. Some of the largest spending increases in the budget come from employee benefits and salaries. Seeley said health care costs continue to rise, but "there’s nothing we can do about it.” Seeley said the village has paid off a significant amount of its debt during the past two years, including a loan for a police car and a water meter debt. The village will realize a savings of more than $100,000 as a result. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
