Hunter bridge slated for replacement

Nov 29, 2017 5:45 am

Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Greene County-owned Sunset Road bridge in Hunter that crosses over the Kaaterskill Creek is scheduled for replacement. A single-lane, temporary, military-grade bridge carrying no weight restrictions will be installed in the spring 2018 to replace the existing bridge. The Sunset Road bridge has been deteriorating over the years and has an eight-ton limit, Greene County Highway Department Superintendent Robert Van Valkenburg said. The bridge’s steel beams and deck are showing its age. "It's in rough shape," he said. The replacement bridge will be designed over the winter by Albany-based Creighton Manning Engineering. The design and construction inspection will cost $13,500 and be funded by a local bridge program included in the county budget. Taxes will not be affected, Van Valkenburg said. Work on a new bridge can begin by mid-summer. Van Valkenburg said the Sunset Road will remain open during construction. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
