Two 12-year-olds charged with arson

Crowe II is reporting for the Times Union two 12-year-olds have been arrested for allegedly starting brush fires December 8, at the Columbia County Fairgrounds and the Rite Aid Pharmacy, State Police at Livingston said. The fire was allegedly set at 5:40 p.m. near a building on the fairgrounds, followed by another brush fire set at the pharmacy, troopers said. The Chatham Fire Department responded and extinguished both fires. Chatham police asked the state police Bureau of Investigation for help with the case, which led to the arrests. Both juveniles were issued Columbia County Family Court appearance tickets for fourth-degree arson, a felony, and fifth-degree arson, a misdemeanor. Police are asking that anyone with information about suspicious fires or activity in Chatham contact the BCI at 518-851-2893. Read the full story in the Times Union.
