Historic Kinderhook Village Hall undergoing repair

Aug 16, 2018 7:45 am
Richard Moody is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the brick is being replaced on the facade of Kinderhook's historic village hall, a building constructed in 1874. The structure is one of five village-owned buildings located in the National Register of Historic Places District and has had extensive work done on it in the past. “I would guess that there are only two [structures], the village hall and bandstand, that have historical or architectural significance,” Mayor Jim Dunham said. “In 2001 we had a similar masonry repair contract for about $27,000. In the past when we had masonry work done on the building the mortar was not done right and it is [now] falling apart.” The village board approved an agreement with contractor Lance Glenn last month and the work is underway. Glenn is expected to finish the job by mid-September. “More brick work is needed higher up on the building,” Dunham said. “But that is not urgent work at this point.” The fire escape at the back of the building needs to be replaced as well. “We are looking for quotes for replacing that,” Dunham said. “I don’t think we are going to be able to salvage any of the fire escape.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
