Richard Moody is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the state Senate Finance Committee has approved an application from Columbia County for $1 million in funding to help pay for renovations to a building the county plans to use as a new fire training center. The two-story, 1,100-square-foot building, located at 50 Grandinetti Drive, will be used as a training facility for firefighters and emergency technicians, a centralized location to store equipment and vehicles, and office space for the county fire coordinator. The application must now receive approval from the authority, Marchione said. “It is expected that there will be additional paperwork for the county and, once that has been completed, the project then will go to the governor, attorney general and comptroller,” she said. The state funding would be in addition to the $1.2 million the county allocated in the current year’s budget. At this point, the project does not have an estimated cost.
