Board considering options to repair historic bridge

Jul 10, 2014 9:53 am
Jack Ross-Pilkington is reporting in the Columbia Paper the Stuyvesant Town Board is weighing options for upgrading the historic bridge over Kinderhook Creek in Stuyvesant Falls. One possibility is to replace the entire bridge at the cost of $4.5 million. Another option would replace the bottom portion of the bridge while retaining the historic upper structure, for $3.5 million. The bridge last underwent repair in 1992. It was estimated that work would last 50 years. A weight limit of 12 tons has been imposed on the existing one-lane bridge to prevent further wear on the span.
