State suspends road construction for holiday travel

Lisa Spitz is reporting for CNYCentral [dot] com starting Wed., Nov. 21, all non-essential lane closures on state highways have been suspended. According to the governor's office, the suspension applies to temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects and runs from Wednesday morning until 6 a.m., Mon., Nov. 26. Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. State and local law enforcement will also be taking part in an impaired driving enforcement campaign Wednesday through Sunday, in an effort to prevent drunk driving on state and local roads. Drivers are also being reminded about the Move Over Law that requires drivers to slowdown and safely move over when approaching law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, tow trucks, and construction or maintenance vehicles that are stopped along roads statewide.
