Former Greene County public defender disbarred

Robert Gavin reports in the Times Union that Anthony Pastel, 38, a former public defender in Greene County who fractured his girlfriend's skull, was formally disbarred March 3. The Catskill-based Pastel faced automatic disbarment after he pleaded guilty in January to second-degree assault, a felony, in Greene County Court after initially being indicted with attempted murder. Pastel was arrested on Aug. 4, 2020, after attacking his girlfriend in the village of Athens. Besides disbarment, Pastel faces two to seven years in prison.
