Kinderhook officials worry after two fatal car accidents on Route 9

Dec 12, 2017 2:30 pm
Emilia Teasdale reports in The Columbia Paper that two fatal car accidents on Route 9 in the past month have folks in Kinderhook talking. “We have to start watching our speeds,” Councilperson Patsy Leader said at a Dec. 4 town meeting. One accident was Nov. 16 near Golden Harvest and the other Nov. 22 near Birch Road. The county Sheriff’s Office has since moved the town’s electronic speed sign to Route 9, and have also “stepped-up” patrols in the area, according to Kinderhook Supervisor Pat Grattan. The board will hold a public hearing on the property tax exemption for veterans of the Cold War. The town currently has an exemption that sunsets in 2018. The board holds its end-of-year meeting at 7 p.m., Dec. 27, and its next regular board meeting is 7 p.m. Jan. 8 in the Martin H. Glynn Municipal Building. That meeting opens with a public hearing about a proposal to make a property tax exemption for veterans of the Cold War permanent. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
