Hudson kennel makes Humane Society's 'horrible hundred' list

Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Hudson Labradoodles, located on Church Road in Greenport, was among seven New York kennels to make the Humane Society of the United States' list of the worst puppy mills and puppy sellers in the country. Hudson Labradoodles is owned and operated by Curtis Rist. Rist has been cited several times in the past two years, according to inspection reports. In an interview with Purcell, Rist said he is working to correct the violations and to bring the kennels into compliance. Issues cited included dodging inspectors, with Rist going so far as to refuse an inspection in January 2019. The kennels were also found to be unsanitary, with poor ventilation, excessive feces, dirty conditions and a toxic smell, according to the report. Twenty-four Australian Labradoodles are housed in large kennels at Hudson Labradoodles. The breed is a mix of a Labrador retriever, a poodle and a cocker spaniel. “I appreciate their [Agriculture and Markets] patience, suggestions and guidance to fix the problems they identified,” Rist said.
