Greene County Sheriff warns of phone scam

Ryan Anglim writes in The Daily Mail the Greene County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a reported phone scam. Residents of Greenville and Catskill recently received phone calls from an individual claiming to be an IRS employee, Sheriff Greg Seeley said Thu., Jul. 23. The caller demands payment of a specified amount of money, and threatens arrest if the recipient does not comply. The calls were received during the past two weeks. A police investigation into the calls is ongoing. Residents who receive similar calls are urged to contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit at (518) 943-3300.
