Activists protest Barrett's vote against housing moratorium extension
Aliya Schneider reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the Hudson-Catskill Housing Coalition celebrated its one-year anniversary with a rally for more affordable local housing in front of the Hudson offices of Assemblyperson Didi Barrett and Rep. Antonio Delgado on Warren Street. The group was protesting Barrett's May 2 vote against the housing moratorium extension. “She voted against me,” said Claire Cousin, a Hudson 1st Ward Supervisor candidate, Hudson Housing Authority Vice Chair, and HCHC President. “And she voted against your neighbor who is not making rent and we have to hold them accountable and by doing that we have to get elected and get in their faces and tell them how to do their job because they don’t deserve their salary.” Barrett released a statement that did not address her vote against the housing moratorium extension but began, “I voted for the eviction moratorium last winter." Quintin Cross, Hudson-Catskill Housing Coalition senior policy adviser, said, "I want Hudson to be a place where if people want to live here, they can. Period.” Read more about this story at HudsonValley360.com.
