Orange County makes official pitch for space command HQ

MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting Orange County officials have submitted a formal presentation to the US Air Force in support of establishing a regional US Space Command headquarters at New York Stewart International Airport. The county’s economic development director, William Fioravanti told the county legislature's Economic Development Committee July 20, that Stewart meets all the requirements. “We have an unmatched logistics system smack-dab in the middle of the Boston-Washington corridor, one of the most populated areas in the entire United States, about 50 million people in that area,” he said. “We have affordable real estate, we have the Air National Guard right on site, West Point. It is really hard to articulate just what an advantage it is to have West Point.” The airport's close proximity to New York City is another good reason to locate the Space Command regional headquarters there, Fioravanti said.
