Germantown plans for wastewater plant upgrade

Mar 01, 2018 7:00 am

Debby Mayer is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Germantown Town Board last month heard a summary of the revised plan for an upgrade to the town's 21-year-old wastewater treatment plan. The project is currently in the design phase, which will continue until the middle of the year. Regulatory approvals will take place in the fall, bids will go out in the winter and construction will be done in 2019. “It’s a straightforward project, that can be done in a year,” Mary Beth Bianconi, senior project manager for Delaware Engineering, said. The capacity of the existing wastewater treatment plant exceeds what the town needs, so there should be no disruption in water service during construction, Bianconi said. The project will be financed in the form of a 30-year loan at just under 2 percent interest. The application deadline for the funds falls in June. Prior to that, the town needs to map exactly where the sewer district is. The board will hold a public hearing 6:45 p.m., March 13, to authorize the Extension Report, with a sewer district map and a plan that modifies the district to match the map.
