Oct 24, 2019 11:23 pm
The Daily Freeman reports that the Department of Environmental Conservation has finished improvements at the North-South Lake Campground in Haines Falls. The DEC spent $366,348 for a fishing platform, new picnic tables and grills, a solar-powered cell phone charging station, benches, a ramp to the beach, a boardwalk to the water, a drinking fountain, an outside shower and foot wash station, and a new pavilion. The DEC also added 500 tons of new beach sand, a new 10-slot bike rack, camper-friendly changing rooms, and a new lifeguard office. "The improvements ... continue our efforts to expand recreational opportunities for people of all abilities," DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said in a prepared statement. The North-South Lake Campground opened in 1926 in the Catskill Forest Preserve. Read more about this story in the Daily Freeman.
